Politics and Morality
Politics is the art of character assassination, self-promotion and agenda acquisition. It is an ugly business. There is no other human endeavor where the attempt to make oneself appear respectful means acting in a manner typically found only in those devoid of morality. One could easily conclude all politicians are bad but like every other institution it is a mixture of good and bad. Good and bad people both, become politicians, but for different reasons. Good people desire to make things better for others, bad people desire to make things better for themselves. Good people generally only reluctantly enter the political arena when other options are less than optimal, or don't exist, to make needed changes to help others. Politics requires getting one's hands dirty so it is very easy for bad people but awkward for good people. Most secular institutions, including the news media along with educational and entertainment industry are aligned with those on the left side of the political spectrum so it is overwhelmingly promoted as good while those on the right side of the spectrum receive little support in promoting their agenda and are even are declared immoral by the other side. This tactic of declaring oneself superior based on a system of values and principals is something progressives have started to deploy on any policy disagreement and is extremely dangerous. Leftist politicians have progressed, they are progressives after all, making them superior to non-progressives, to believe any view different from theirs is immoral. By declaring moral behavior, immoral without fear of challenge leftists have made good, bad and bad, good. This idea of government concerning itself with the morality of an issue rather than the legality basically throws the idea of the separation of church and state out the window. One's morality (values and principals) has up to now been off limits in recognition of the fact that in order to debate an issue the last thing one wants to do is question ones personal morale integrity as this is dangerously close to declaring oneself God, capable of reading another's heart, rendering judgement and declaring other's arguments void on morale grounds. Morality is a concept recognized as primarily exclusive to the individual and more broadly to private or religious interpretation due to the recognition societal cohesiveness requires it. The State is not capable or designed to concern itself with morality. Its only job in this regard is to ensure all men remain unhindered in their right to determine for themselves what is moral or immoral and ensure that protections guaranteed under the Constitution are not violated on grounds of morality or any reason. Beyond this, the state has no authority to act based on morality and agents of the state making judgments based on morality rather than factual sound reasoning act in a manner similar to that of a theocracy or dictatorship rather than a republic. Since the State is the guardian and administrator of law and has full control of the arms of force in society, using it to enforce law is recognized as vital but using it to enforce morality ensures societal destruction. Any society is split into camps of morality, one camp's morality is another camp's sin. Society exists optimally when the State imposes rules that apply to every man's physical actions not his morality. It seems lost upon the left they have opened the door to perhaps the greatest immorality of all, forced morality. This is no different than the merger of Church and State. After all, morality has to be based on something, one can not just proclaim something immoral without citing which moral authority his view is based upon. When no particular religious doctrine is cited as the basis for a charge of "immoral" one can only assume the religion in question is humanism. It seems lost upon humanists that they are perhaps the biggest religion of all. Lost upon them also is the basic goal behind the idea of the separation of church and state is that no group should be allowed to intertwine morality and force into an instrument of the state. Progressive leftists arrogantly claimed not long ago "we are who we have been waiting for." If they do not stop calling others who see the world much differently than they do, immoral, they will be chanting a new slogan, "we are who we always feared."
